1) Safety and inspection
Before starting, please make sure to wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and be certain lock-out tag-out (LOTO) procedures are followed on stationary equipment to assure the system is safely isolated from all sources of potential energy. Inspect both the driving and the driven shaft to make sure they are free of dirt and burrs. Clean and de-burr as necessary.
2) Grease the seals
Lightly coat the seals with grease and fit them over the shafts before mounting the hubs.
3) Install keys in shaft and mount the hubs
Install properly fitted keys into the shaft and mount the hubs on the shafts with their flange face flush with the shaft. Tighten the setscrews. If the hubs are interference fit, heat hubs to 275°F. Interference fit hubs generally do not have setscrews, but where used, be sure hubs are cool before tightening setscrews to avoid fracturing or damaging the hubs.
